- Overview of the Co-op Program
Welcome to Michigan Tech's Co-op Program! With nearly 2000 registered co-op employers and over 500 graduate and undergraduate students participating each year, our co-op program spans across the U.S., Europe and Asia. Co-op offers students academic credit while gaining hands-on experience in their field and provides employers with talented students for their workforce.

This year we have a MTU mechanical engineering student working with us. He has been a great asset to our department and was able to hit the ground running when he came last May. He was willing and eager to do any assignment we sent his way. One of his first assignments was to help perform pipe stress analysis on one of our power plant's high pressure steam system. He picked up the concepts very quickly and completed the task efficiently and accurately. Now, in the last month of his co-op assignment, he is functioning in a nearly self-directed capacity performing project management functions on two projects. He also independently researched and authored preventive maintenance manuals for two of our combustion turbine generators.

Co-ops and interns are an intrinsic part of Kimberly-Clark's culture. This valuable work experience is two-fold. It provides valuable real-time work experiences for students to apply their technical skills and learn about the corporate environment; and provides Kimberly-Clark a valuable work source, a chance to evaluate student's skills and abilities, and is the major pipeline for future fulltime hires.

Kimberly-Clark Corporation values its relationship with Michigan Tech and its students. We hire the majority of our Engineering and Research co-ops and interns from MTU annually. MTU students consistently exhibit high scholastic ability, commitment to learning and above average work ethics; many of whom have been hired fulltime and still work for Kimberly-Clark today.
